How Is Earwax Treated

There are several methods your doctor may use to eliminate ear wax. They may use a curved instrument known as a curet to pull it out.

They may also flush it out using a syringe filled with warm water or remove it with a suction device. If you suffer from chronic earwax buildup, they may recommend medications for wax removal.

Facial Plastic Surgeon Vs Plastic Surgeon: Whats The Difference

Choosing a qualified aesthetic surgeon is critical to securing superior care and satisfactory results. Keep in mind that buyer beware applies to the selection of a prospective surgeon as well. It is up to you to ensure the surgeon you choose meets the necessary qualifications.

Qualified plastic surgeons in the U.S. are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, while qualified facial plastic surgeons are certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This certification means the surgeon has received the specialized training and has the experience necessary to perform the delicate and complex job of facial plastic surgery.

The facial plastic surgeon vs plastic surgeondistinction may have never even entered your mind. After all, plastic surgery is plastic surgery, right? Not quite.

Plastic Surgeons: Medical Education & Residency

Before receiving the necessary certification from the ABPS, the plastic surgeon candidate must have completed the following:

  • 4 Years of Medical School
  • 5-6 Years Medical Residency in General Surgery & Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
  • Passed the Certification Exam from the ABPS
  • Facial Plastic Surgeons: Medical Education, Residency, and Fellowship Programs

Facial plastic surgeons, on the other hand, have different qualifications and expectations. They include:

  • 4 Years of the Medical School
  • 1 Year Medical Residency in General Surgery
  • 4 Years Residency in Otolaryngology
  • 1-2 Years in a Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship
  • Combining Refinement + Function

The nose is one of the hallmarks of ENT care. When certain nasal treatments call for surgery, its also an opportunity for patients to correct areas of the nose they have always wanted to change. Dr. Davis can effectively combine traditional rhinoplasty with sinus surgery or septoplasty. During sinus surgery, Dr. Davis is able to remove tissues or polyps that are blocking the sinuses. This can allow patients to breathe easier and stop chronic sinus infections.

The septum is the divider between the nostrils. In some patients, this area is crooked or has become crooked due to an injury. When this occurs, breathing can be difficult and surgical correction is necessary. By combining these surgeries, Dr. Davis can help correct breathing problems while also making cosmetic improvements to the size or shape of the nose. This accomplishes two goals at once, creates a shorter recovery time, and requires fewer office visits.

Why Should I Consider Facial Plastic Surgery

ENT specialists, or otolaryngologists, diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions involving the whole face, nose, lips, ears, and neck. Facial plastic surgery is a part of otolaryngology that is divided into two categories: reconstructive and cosmetic.

Reconstructive plastic surgery is performed for patients with conditions that may be present from birth, such as birthmarks on the face, cleft lip and palate, protruding ears, and a crooked smile, that also affect normal function. Other conditions that are the result of accidents, trauma, burns, or previous surgery can also be corrected with this type of surgery. In addition, some reconstructive procedures are required to treat existing diseases like skin cancer.

Cosmetic facial plastic surgery is surgery meant to enhance visual appearance of the facial structures and features. Common procedures include facelifts, eye lifts, rhinoplasty, chin and cheek implants, liposuction, and procedures to correct facial wrinkles. ENT specialists are well trained to address all these problems.

What Questions Should I Ask My Doctor

    Facial Plastic Surgery
  • Are there alternatives? What if I do nothing?
  • How often do you perform this type of procedure? How many times?
  • What kind of preparation plans do I need to make?
  • How long will the procedure will take?
  • What medications should I avoid before surgery?
  • How long before I can return to my normal activities?
  • Because some facial plastic treatments are optional, its important to understand your medical coverage before any treatment. Insurance will usually cover reconstructive plastic surgery, but check with your provider. If you will be paying for the procedure, find out what payment options are available and if there is a payment plan.

How Should I Prepare For Facial Plastic Surgery

Knowing what to expect from facial plastic surgery will put you more at ease. Depending on you and your body, certain risks might include nausea, numbness, bleeding, blood clots, infection, and adverse reactions to the anesthesia. Additionally, if you smoke, you should avoid doing so for two weeks before your surgery in order to optimize healing following your procedure.

Most plastic surgery will not require a long hospital stay. Depending on the extent of your surgery, some procedures can be completed on an outpatient basis. Other procedures may require a hospital stay overnight or for a day or two. Either way, before you are released from the hospital, your surgeon will discuss with you any special care to take while you are recovering at home. You will receive instructions regarding how to tend to your incision area. Sutures and surgical staples will be removed in the office about a week after the procedure. Your surgeon should also explain any special diet restrictions you should follow, medications you should take or avoid, and any restriction on activities.

Most patients feel comfortable returning to work one to two weeks following their surgery, when swelling and bruising are reduced, and their appearance has improved.
