STAMFORD, Conn. The national leader in orthopedics and the largest hospital in Fairfield County advanced their collaboration by officially cutting the ribbon to open the inpatient surgical unit of HSS Orthopedics at Stamford Health.

They also run a sports rehabilitation facility at Chelsea Piers and outpatient surgery at the Tully Health Center.

The opening ceremony Monday was led by Brian G. Grissler, President and CEO of Stamford Health. He was joined by Louis A. Shapiro, President and CEO of the Hospital for Special Surgery.

The new 40,000-square-foot unit encompasses the entire fifth floor of the new Stamford Hospital, allowing a greater number of inpatient orthopedic surgical cases. About 50 staff members are being hired to oversee patient care on this floor.

In February, the two organizations announced their collaboration to advance the orthopedic services available, beginning with outpatient orthopedic services performed at Stamford Healths Tully Health Center.

We opened our new hospital just a year ago and are pleased to see this strategic and innovative relationship with HSS already become a reality, said Grissler. Building upon our recognized levels of service, Magnet status nursing and our new hospital, this collaboration will further elevate the level of orthopedic services for residents across the region.

Under the collaboration, Stamford Health adopted HSS best clinical practices across the entire orthopedic surgery line.

Npi Validation Check Digit Calculation

The following table explains the step by step NPI number validation process using the ISO standard Luhn algorithm.

Start with the original NPI number, the last digit is the check digit and is not used in the calculation.
1
Step 1: Double the value of the alternate digits, beginning with the rightmost digit.
2 3 0
Step 2: Add all the doubled and unaffected individual digits from step 1 plus the constant number 24.
2 + 8 + 4 + 1 + 8 + 0 + 4 + 3 + 0 + 24 = 54
Step 3: Subtract the total obtained in step 2 from the next higher number ending in zero, the result is the check digit.
60 – 54 = 6 6

The NPI number 1821402306 is valid because the calculated check digit 6 using the Luhn validation algorithm matches the last digit of the original NPI number.

Hospital For Special Surgery And Stamford Health Unveil Augmented Reality Solution For Spine Surgery

Hospital for Special Surgery and Stamford Health Collaborative

Hospital for Special Surgery and Stamford Health have announced the introduction of their new augmented reality navigation technology for spine surgery. Spine surgeons working for HSS at Stamford Health will be equipped with x-ray vision, which will give them the capability to see through tissue surrounding a patients spine to provide more precise and faster surgeries.

The system is now available at Stamford Healths Bennett Medical Center campus and Harvinder Sandhu, MD, MBA, co-chief of HSS Spine, will lead orthopedic surgeons using the new system. . Sandhu performed The first surgery using the technology was performed by Dr. Sandhu at HSS Stamford Health on January 28.

The AR technology allows HSS-Stamford Health collaborative surgeons to visualize the anatomy of a patients spine in 3D during surgery and track progress in real time via a transparent display headset fitted with AR eyeglasses. The headset enables surgeons to determine the position of surgical tools in real time by superimposing a patients CT scan or x-ray images over the surgical site in order to guide surgeons during procedures.

The use of augmented reality technology in this setting also helps to remove the need for surgeons to shift their focus back and forth to a remote screen, and instead enables them to look at a patient and review data simultaneously, since the headset projects 3D navigation data into the surgeons field of view.
