How Does The Neck Age

Why Plastic Surgery Is On The Rise

Like the face, the dermal structure of the neck experiences collagen depletion over time. This process leads to skin laxity, the formation of the turkey wattle and horizontal banding around the neck. By tightening the dermal structure and removing excess skin, Dr. Lowenstein can efficiently reverse these aging signs and create a smoother, more youthful contour.

What Is The Nasolabial Fold

The nasolabial fold, sometimes called the nasolabial crease, is a highly misunderstood region of the face. It represents a tight connection between the skin and the underlying facial structure. While injection of soft tissue filler into the nasolabial folds can help soften their depth, significant injections are not recommended. The worsening of the shadow of this crease occurs because of the loss of volume and elasticity in the cheek and the sagging and falling of this tissue.

Preparing For Your Neck Lift

When assessing whether a neck lift is the right option for you, Dr. Lowenstein will take into consideration your specific concerns as well as the degree of correction needed to deliver your desired outcome. Dr. Lowenstein will conduct a thorough analysis of your unique conditions, review your medical history and listen intently to your aesthetic goals. This information will be used to determine the best possible approach to your neck lift, but it is also a crucial part of ensuring the surgery is safe.

You should be sure to disclose any health conditions, current medications and lifestyle factors that might affect the outcome of your procedure. Once your initial meeting with Dr. Lowenstein is completed, you will feel comfortable with your upcoming surgery and confident in your choice of Dr. Lowenstein.

How Does The Mid

Dr. Lowensteins cheek lift reverses signs of aging by re-suspending each specialized area of volume to its proper position through well hidden and limited incisions. The malar fat is replaced over the cheek to provide the beautiful contour that we see in every magazine cover-girl. The buccal tissue is additionally lifted, reducing the skin excess and laxity over the nasolabial crease and thereby reducing the shadow of the nasolabial fold.

Are Soft Tissue Fillers The Answer

A puffed-out, over-filled nasolabial fold treated with excessive injectable does not produce a youthful or even natural appearance. The nasolabial folds appear worse as we age because the cheek above falls downward as we get older, causing a worsening shadow in the crease. The fix for this problem is not to fill the area below the collapsed tissue but instead to lift the cheek back to its youthful position.

The Location Of The Surgery

The facial rejuvenation procedure can be performed in a hospital, outpatient surgical center or the surgeons own office based facility. These surgeries are typically offered on an outpatient basis. There may be some instances where the surgeons elect to hospitalize patients for 24 hours after the surgical procedure has taken place because of the use of general anesthesia.

Patients with certain medical conditions could need to be monitored as well. If the patient is a diabetic or someone with high blood pressure, they could require a short inpatient stay.

What Is The Difference Between Pulling And Sculpting

In an operation to restore the facial appearance to its youthful version, attention must be paid not only to the overlying skin but particularly to the volume below it. Pulling the skin alone results in an awkward and temporary result.

These telltale signs of facial plastic surgery are avoided with Dr. Lowensteins facelift in Santa Barbara. It is a sculpting of the tissue underneath the skin, made up of the SMAS and the platysma, that provides the appearance of an optimal facelift.

What Procedures Can Be Combined With A Neck Lift

In addition to a neck lift, Dr. Lowenstein might advise patients to include a facelift, brow lift, eyelid surgery, or other anti-aging options to create even more dramatic results. In most cases, multiple treatments can be combined into one procedure. This saves you money and time by reducing recovery days and minimizing certain costs like anesthesia and facility fees.

How Does A Facelift Improve The Neck

Pin on My Practice

As it ages, the platysma muscle can form bands in the neck as its supportive structure weakens. As part of the Santa Barbara facelift, the platysma muscle is tightened under the jaw and laterally in the neck, effectively supplying a corset or sling to reshape this area. In some patients, the sculpting of fat via liposuction is performed to contour this area further.

How Is A Mid

Dr. Lowensteins Cheek Lift is performed through a lower eyelid incision and most often incorporates lower eyelid rejuvenation. The natural fat of the cheek is accessed through this small incision. Elevation of the soft tissue of the cheek, called the malar fat, produces two excellent results: rejuvenation of the soft tissue of the cheek and improvement of the shadows of the nasolabial folds.

Why Choose Facial Plastic Surgery

Facial surgery is often the recommended course of action to diminish the moderate to severe signs of aging, correct a congenital facial issue, or treat and repair a severe injury to the face. Procedures are designed to ultimately enhance and restore a fresher facial expression and help people feel confident about their appearance.

How Does The Cheek Age

As we get older, the youthful fatty tissue that lies over the cheekbone area falls. This tissue is called malar fat. The bright, youthful appearance of our cheeks lessens as there is less volume over the apex of the cheekbones, and falling malar fat can produce unwanted shadows in the cheek below the eyes.

Volume loss also affects the fat in the lower part of the mid-face, called the buccal region. This produces a more hollow appearance, which is also a sign of aging. As the volume loss in the mid-face progresses, the overlying skin, which used to drape smoothly over the youthful face, sags and worsens the shadow of the nasolabial fold below it.

About The Neck Lift Procedure

A traditional neck lift is usually performed under general anesthesia, especially if the surgery will include other surgical procedures. If J-plasty is performed alone, it can be done using local anesthetic and sedation. Our team will work with you to determine which option is the best fit for your situation. In most cases, excess skin will need to be removed during a neck lift. Dr. Lowenstein takes great care to ensure all the incisions are as discreet as possible. He does this by using the bodys natural folds and hidden locations to hide the scarring. Two standard incision locations are used: traditional neck lift incisions and a limited neck lift incision. Traditional neck lift incisions are performed when a substantial amount of skin will need to be removed. They typically begin at the hairline above the sideburn, continue around the back of the ear and end somewhere near the bottom of the hairline.

In a limited neck lift, the incisions are shorter, usually only appearing around the back of the ear. Shorter incisions mean less access to skin restructuring, but it also means less visible scarring. During your consultation, we will happily work with you to determine the appropriate length of incisions for your goals.

How Aging Affects The Neck

Pin on Lacing

The aging process can have many effects on the neck area. Collagen loss within the dermal structure leads to significant skin laxity, producing the dreaded turkey neck, where skin folds begin to resemble a turkey wattle. At the same time, submental fat accumulates underneath the jawline to give the appearance of a double chin. Loosening of the platysma muscle produces horizontal banding around the neck, exacerbating the aged appearance and leaves some running for the turtlenecks.

Because there is continuity between the neck and lower face, you might also notice a loss of definition around the jawline and the formation of jowls. Deep creases around the nose and mouth can also develop. Because these aging symptoms commonly appear simultaneously, it is not unusual for Dr. Lowenstein to recommend combining a lower facelift with the neck lift to form a smoother contour and a seamless line between the lower face and the neck.

While most aging concerns are focused on the face, the neck is not immune to the toll time can take on the skin and tissue. In fact, some people may find the neck ages faster than the face, thanks to our technology age that has us bending our heads down to create premature banding in some cases.

Fortunately, there are surgical solutions for refreshing the neck, just like there are procedures available to rejuvenate the face. Dr. Lowenstein at Montecito Plastic Surgery offers some of the most innovative techniques in neck lifts available today, designed to produce the most natural, beautiful results possible.

What Causes Facial Aging

Studies of facial anatomy have mapped out specific regions of volume that give the face its younger appearance. Specialized layers of connective tissue envelop these areas and maintain their position in our early years.

The primary connective tissue is called the SMAS and is in continuity with the broad, flat neck muscle called the platysma. As we age, we lose volume in our face, while the connective tissue of both the skin and the SMAS weakens.

Facial tissues tend to droop over the jawline, producing unwanted wrinkles and jowls. Similarly, these mechanisms cause excess skin and banding in the neck as the underlying platysma muscle cannot retain its youthful contour.

It is important to realize a few things about the procedure before meeting with the medical professionals responsible for their surgery. For starters, it is not designed to provide a fundamental change to your personal appearance.

Secondly, this surgery is not going to be able to stop the aging process. If non-surgical approaches are available, then they will be presented. It is important to note that if the non-invasive options do not achieve the desired results of the patient, then surgery may be the only option that will provide the results the patient seeks to achieve.

While there are non-surgical procedures available to various patients, these procedures are simply unable to offer the same level of results that surgery can provide. In certain instances, the non-surgical procedure could serve as a way for the patient to defer a surgical procedure for a period of time.

These delays are necessary at times and the non-surgical options are often utilized as a means of complimenting a surgical procedure but may delay the time at which a facelift is necessary and can also compliment the results of a surgical procedure.
