Procedure: How Blepharoplasty Or Eyelid Surgery Works

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is typically done under local anesthesia as an outpatient at Mackenzie Health in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The procedure typically takes between 1-2 hours.

During your blepharoplasty, Dr. Madronich will make an incision in the crease of the upper eyelid and/or along the lash line of the lower lid. Depending on your individual needs, he will then excise the drooping skin, remove any fat deposits, and tighten the underlying muscles. The incisions will be closed with either fine removable sutures, skin adhesives, or surgical tape. Any resulting scars, though minimal, will be naturally hidden in the crease of the upper lid or by the lashes in the lower lid.

Blepharoplasty Or Eyelid Surgery For Vaughan Richmond Hill And Greater Toronto Area

Blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as eyelid surgery or an eyelift, can restore a brighter and more youthful look to the face by removing excess skin with an upper, lower, or double eyelid cosmetic procedure.

The delicate skin around the eyes is one of the first areas to show signs of aging. As we age, the muscles around our eyes begin to weaken and the collagen in the skin around your eyes loses elasticity. The sensitive skin around your eyes is more susceptible to damage than the skin on the rest of your face, particularly by lifestyle choices, such as smoking and sun exposure. As a result, skin on the upper and/or lower eyelids can begin to sag and wrinkles can develop at the outer corners of the eyes, commonly referred to as ‘crow’s feet.’

Deposits of fat around the eye can cause the upper eyelids to look puffy and result in the appearance of ‘bags’ under the eyes. Some people have a strong genetic pre-disposition for fatty deposits around the eye, particularly under the lower lid. These fatty deposits tend to run in families and are not always age related. These individuals are excellent candidates for blepharoplasty.

Depending on the anatomy of the eye, many people find that puffiness in the upper and/or lower lid makes them look tired, angry, or stressed.
